We flew into San Fran, rented a car and were off. Well, that is after my backpack finally arrived from the black hole of international travel known as MIA. Shortly after, we headed south down Highway 1. If this is a drive you've never taken, you should. The dramatic views of the rugged Pacific coastline make it one of the most scenic drives imaginable. However, if you are driving you'll have to use the turnoffs to really take in the scene, or face the distinct possibility of either sideswiping the mountain or plunging into the ocean as the road is an obstacle course of tight lanes and hair pin turns. Our first stop was Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Pfeiffer Big Sur is a state park that protects some of the best specimens of redwood trees in the southern portion of their range. Worth a stop if you're looking to see some big trees but I wouldn't recommend it for camping unless you don't mind big crowds. That evening we headed south to check out Mc Way Falls which is in Julia Pfeiffer State Park (pictured here) and arrived just in time for a rare fog-free sunset.
