We drove east through the valley and up into the Sierras to spend four days in the backcountry of Kings Canyon National Park. Stunning. I have to say that the Bubbs Creek trail is one the most scenic and enjoyable hikes I have ever done. Miles two and three are pretty unenjoyable switchbacks through blazing hot manzanita chaparral, but after that the rest of the trail is a relatively gentle climb into the high Sierras. Worth every mile. Wildflowers lined the trail which was abundant with wildlife. We saw two bears, countless birds, several deer, and many other smaller creatures.
